Client Story

My name is Olivier. I’m 20 years old, and I have a condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, which causes muscle weakness in the lower limbs. As a result, I’ve spent most of my life a wheelchair. In recent years, my physical strength and agility for daily living activities has gradually declined.

The story of my discovery of Camp Massawippi dates back to the time when I was a passionate powerchair soccer enthusiast many years ago. As soon as I heard about this wonderful summer camp from my teammates, my parents realized how much I would benefit from the experience. They signed me right away up for the next summer!

Every year since then, I eagerly await the summer so I can be reunited with the other campers and the wonderful counsellors. For us, our stay at this unique camp is more than just an opportunity to escape the city and enjoy some relaxation, it’s a breath of fresh air for the mind and soul.

Each day is chock filled with activities, from shared meals to memorable moments with great people. Arts and crafts are among my favorite, and I also really enjoy pet therapy.

The counsellors who look after us are so much more than camp guides, they’re like partners in our adventures. Each adventure spent with them becomes a special memory. Friendship and sharing are at the heart of every camp experience.

Camp Massawippi is a great place for meeting others living with disabilities like me. The facilities and equipment are adapted so that we can join in all routines and activities. It’s an oasis of caring and inclusion where everyone is fully integrated – and where no one ever feels left out.

I’m forever grateful for all the amazing people I’ve been lucky enough to meet at camp over the years. I would like to thank everyone who’s helped create and continue to support this precious refuge.

Sincerely yours,

Long-time camper
